Jovani Prom 2020 Jovani Prom 2020

Each year, there are a few prom dress lines that we get particularly excited about. 2020 is no different, as perennial fashion powerhouse Jovani has delivered yet another outstanding fashion line. While it may seem like prom season is in the distant future, our Roo Girls know that now is the time to begin your quest for the perfect dress. The hottest styles sell out quickly and, while you may not have yet secured a date for the special event, locking down the perfect prom dress should be priority number one. After all, prom will be one of the most memorable moments of your teenage years. With that idea in mind, Rissy Roo's would like to share with you some of our favorite styles and trends from this year's Jovani prom dress line.

    Ball Gowns: Classic and Timeless

We might as well start where it all began. For many years, traditional ball gowns were not just a choice for prom girls, but the only choice. In 2020, while many more style options will be available, many potential prom queens will still opt for the timeless princess look to fulfill their fairytale evening. Layers upon layers of tulle will typically permeate the wide full skirts of these enchanting ball gowns. While this may be a classic look, many of these gowns have been given some modern touches, such as pockets for gum, lipstick, or other essentials, should you choose not to carry a clutch.

One style we are particularly infatuated with this year is Jovani 55634. This spectacular ball gown features a deep plunging v-neckline. Stunning floral appliques flow effortlessly through the garment from the shoulders, through the bodice, and trail off throughout the full tulle skirt. In addition to the navy/black combo we've featured (pictured right), this style comes in a myriad of other spectacular combos and colors including off white/light blue, off white/lilac, off white/yellow, champagne, off white/blush, off white/off white, red, and teal.

Pastels are once again en vogue and, if you're really going all out for the prom princess look, there's no better way to go. One such style we've fallen in love with for this coming season is Jovani 1310. This jaw-dropping ball gown is available in a charming off white/lilac combo that is sure to be a showstopper at this year's prom. Thin spaghetti straps lead to a v-neck bodice featuring alluring illusion cutouts and a mesmerizing pattern that continues in an asymmetrical manner through the full tulle skirt. Continue reading

  • Jenelle Evans in Sherri Hill for the 2017 VMAs

29This past Sunday, August 27th, so many celebrities walked the red carpet for the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, where they celebrated and honored music videos that were released between June 25, 2016 and June 23, 2017. Katy Perry hosted the event, and certainly made for a fun night.

Possibly the most anticipated moment of the evening was the premiere of Taylor Swift's music video for her new single, "Look What You Made Me Do." Earlier in the week, she had surprised fans when she deleted all of her images from her Instagram account, to be replaced by two videos of a snake. So, we knew something big was coming, and that something big was the release of her newest music video during the 2017 VMAs!

The video was much darker than Taylor's usual direction. The video was all about Taylor's reputation, displaying different versions of herself, including as a zombie! It was a direct jab at past issues with Kanye West and Katy Perry. So, it was certainly quite the statement for the video to be released during an awards ceremony that Katy Perry was hosting! If you haven't watched the video yet, check it out below.

Believe it or not, with Tay being the dedicated, creative artist that she is, Tay has already also released a lyric video version of her song. Check out that video, as well, below.

There were so many other memorable events during this year's VMAs, including P!nk's acceptance speech for the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. But, being Rissy Roo's, we're here to talk about the red carpet fashion, and there is one very important VMAs 2017 dress that we're here to share with you!

We know there were so many gorgeous looks on the VMAs red carpet, but there was one special look that really stuck out to us - a Sherri Hill dress! Reality TV star Jenelle Evans, known for MTV's shows "16 and Pregnant" and "Teen Mom 2," rocked a Sherri Hill dress on the 2017 VMAs red carpet, and it looked so gorgeous on her. Check out a picture of her in the dress below!
The dress that Jenelle wore was Sherri Hill 50948, a beautiful two-piece gown that features a v-neck top with an open square back and a full, floor-length a-line skirt. The top is embellished Mwith a vibrant bouquet of floral embroidery that makes for a stand-out look against the black skirt. It's difficult to tell in Jennelle's picture, but the skirt features a hide side slit. Check out the dress on our website to see the slit!

  • Olivia Jordan is Our Miss USA 2015!

We love our pageants at Rissy Roo's, and one of the biggest pageants out there was held this past Sunday night (June 13, 2015): the Miss USA 2015 pageant! At the event, Miss USA 2014 Nia Sanchez passed on her crown to Olivia Jordan, formerly Miss Oklahoma, to be crowned the new Miss USA 2015! While all of the contestants were beautiful (especially in their Sherri Hill and Mac Duggal dresses!) and gifted, the the Oklahoma native truly did stand out in the from the 50 other women vying for the crown. After all, could you blame the judges for picking her just based off of the beautiful pink gown she wore, alone?!

Watch the big moment as Olivia is announced Miss USA 2015 and crowned:

So beautiful!! Olivia is 26 years old and is no newbie when it comes to winning pageants or showing off for the camera. She is a model and the 2013 winner of the Miss World America contest. She was followed in the top five by first runner-up Miss Texas Ylianna Guerra, second runner-up Miss Rhode Island Anea Garcia, third runner-up Miss Nevada Brittany McGowan, and fourth runner-up Miss Maryland Mamé Adjei. • What's Your Prom Dress Style?

It can be very exciting to start looking for your perfect prom dress, but if you don' t have an idea going in of what you want, it can also turn into a very long process! So, before you begin searching for your dream dress, start thinking about what type of dress you're looking for. We'll be posting more about different types in weeks to come, but below are some basics to think about while it's still early on in prom season. They are in no particular order, and you'll find that you have no preferences towards some of the different features - it's all about finding the few details that you know you want in your dress!

    1. The most basic of all questions: Short Dresses or Long Dresses? If you have a preference one way or another to this, it's a quick way to weed out a whole bunch of dresses! If you go with long dresses, this opens up many more questions, as there's different style long dresses to choose from: mermaid, ball gown, and evening gowns. Of course, if you can't decide between the two, the trendy Hi-Lo dress look may be a good option for you - it's a nice way to get both looks in one! Best of all, most Hi-Lo dresses have detachable skirts, so you really can wear the dress both ways.

    2. What color dress do you want? If you have a favorite color that you know you want to wear, this can be a great place to start. There's so many options out there when it comes to color, so you definitely won't find yourself limited!

    3. Is there a certain style you want? Some examples to consider are: the classic Cinderella ball gown, an edgy Glam Rock look, Vintage, or rock some fringe in a Flapper style dress.

Another fun way to find your prom dress style is to take the many quizzes online that match your personality to a dress! Seventeen Magazine's "What's Your Prom Style" quiz is a great one to check out!

  • Keira Knightley at the 'Anna Karenina' NYC Premiere

Keira Knightley's newest film, 'Anna Karenina' had its New York premiere at Florence Gould Hall earlier this month (on Nov. 7th). The British actress wore a stunning navy blue long-sleeve lace evening gown on the red carpet.

We loved her classy look with the lace dress and how she kept it simple by wearing a tight bun and only earrings for jewelry. The red lipstick was the perfect touch against the navy gown.

As we've mentioned in past posts, lace is a very popular trend right now (Kristen Stewart wore lace at the Los Angeles Breaking Dawn 2 premiere). If you'd love to rock a long sleeve lace evening gown just like Keira for your next formal event, the below dresses are great options!

    A. Mac Duggal 78704R - A black lace one-shoulder evening gown. The dress features delicate lace and bead designers that travel from the hip to the wrist of the single sheer sleeve. A thigh high slit adds excitement but does not take away from the classy look of the dress.

    B. Mac Duggal 85007R - Keep it classic in this A-line style evening dress featuring a voluminous skirt that hits just above the ankle. The exquisite sheer fabric on the top is filled with intricate beaded floral designs that travel down to the three-quarter length sleeves. Perfect for a formal affair.

    C. Claudine for Alyce 2242 - Give the lace look new meaning in pink! The dress features 3/4 length sleeves, a mermaid/trumpet skirt, high mandarin collar, and a peek-a-boo back.

The film 'Anna Karenina' also stars Jude Law and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. It is set in late 19th Century Russia high-society and is about Anna, who is an aristocrat that enters into a life-changing affair with Count Vronsky (Jude Law). The story is adapted from Leo Tolstoy's novel of the same name.

Are you excited for the film? None of us here at Rissy Roo's have seen it yet, but we're hoping to soon! Let us know what you thought by leaving a comment below if you've seen it!

  • What to Wear to a Masquerade Ball

Halloween is near, so we wanted to have a little fun this week and talk about planning for a Masquerade Ball! Dressing for a masquerade is very different from the normal Halloween costume party. A masquerade is traditionally formal or semi-formal, and may have a specific theme to it.

    Finding the Right Attire

If the dress code is formal, men should be in tuxedos and women are expected to wear gowns. If it is semi-formal, men can wear suits and women can wear a more casual dress, like a cocktail dress.

Choosing the exact type of dress you buy will also depend on the theme. For instance, if there is a Victorian or Shakespearian theme, your attire should reflect this. But, if it is a more general masquerade, you can choose a classic gown or cocktail dress. Below are some of our favorite dresses for a formal and semi-formal masquerade party.

    Choosing your Mask

Having a masquerade mask is the other essential piece of your outfit. You can wear a small mask that only covers the eyes, or a larger one that covers your whole face. There are usually no limitations on the type of mask you can wear. You should fine a mask that is unique to you and your personality; just make sure that your mask compliments your outfit. Some masks can be very elaborate, with gems and oversized noses, while others are much more simple. Another option is to purchase a plain one and decorate it yourself.

If you don't have a masquerade to attend, but still need a Halloween costume, dressing up like a masquerade ball attendee can be fun, too! It's as simple as finding a formal dress and choosing a mask to wear with it!
