  • Rissy Roo's Dress Testimonial: Macie Buch

A new year always means lots of new events to attend, which gets us excited to not only help all of our Roo Girls find their perfect dresses, but to then get to see them all dressed up at their events! Our most recent dress testimonial comes from Macie Buch and her mom Jennifer Wyers-Buch. Macie recently attended her Majors ball and wore one of our favorite new looks from our Spring 2015 collection: Sherri Hill 32146. Jennifer sent us the below pictures of Macie and said:

"Just thought we'd share a pic with the Rissy Roo's staff. This dress by Sherri Hill was the talk of the Majors Ball in Indianapolis last night. Thank you so much!!"

We thought this picture was too cute! Macie certainly looked flawless in her leopard print Sherri Hill dress! The number she chose is a fun and flirty cocktail dress that features not only the stand-out leopard print full taffeta skirt, but also a shiny, chunky black beaded strapless bodice, hidden side pockets (which you can see in the picture of Macie blow), and a peek-a-boo layer of pink tulle underneath the skirt. It's such a chic look, and Macie showed it off so well!

Sherri Hill 32146Check out those so practical hidden pockets! Macie's posing here with her cheerleader friend Danielle Ludlam. They both look so cute in their two-toned dresses.

We loved everything about Macie's look - from her dress (of course), to her loose curls, simple makeup, and statement necklace. It's a perfect (flawless!) look for any semi-formal or formal event... from a Majors Ball, to Prom, or even a Sweet 16. We can definitely see why she was the talk of the night!

Thank you, Jennifer and Macie, for sending in your pictures! We hope you had an amazing time at your ball, and we can't wait to see you dressed up for your next event. Cheer on!

  • Best Dressed at the 2013 MTV VMAs

The 2013 Video Music Awards are here, and the red carpet was full of so much funky fashion on Sunday, August 25th! VMA fashion is definitely known for its outrageous moments, and this year was no different. From Brittney Spears' bear-all lace look in 2001 to Lady Gaga's meat ensemble in 2010, the outfits that have graced the VMA red carpet have always been questionable in taste, but very legendary when it comes to impact!

To us Roo Girls, it's all about finding that balance between taste and impact, and there were a few lady celebs who towed that line so well this year. Celebrities like Katy Perry and Ciara made a bold fashion statement, while stile rocking an elegant look. Check out what they wore below and how you can get their look for Homecoming or Prom.

katy-perry-mtv-vmas-2013Katy Perry rocked animal print in such a unique and stylish way at the 2013 VMAs. The knee-length skirt and long sleeves added class, while the form-fitting style and high slit showed off her curves so well. We also loved the little pieces of fur on the dress - it gave it just the right amount of VMAs flare!

Night Moves 6650 animal print dress

Want Katy Perry's animal print look for Homecoming? We love Night Moves style 6650, a strapless animal print cocktail dress. We love this dress because it channels the funkiness of Katy's look with the bead and crystal accents that are all over the dress.

    Jovani 6437

For a longer look that's so perfect for Prom, check out Jovani style 6437. It's a strapless animal print evening gown that features a side cut-out for some extra glam and a high front slit.

    ciara-mtv-vmas-2013 400x573

Ciara looked stunning in her so revealing, but so elegant ivory lace gown! From head to toe, it accented her features so well and complimented her skin tone perfectly.

Jovani 4863 white lace dressFor a sheer, lace, and ruffled skirt look like Ciara, we're loving Jovani style 4863. This exquisite hi-lo white evening gown is perfect for a classy prom look.

    Jovani 171924 short lace dress

Want Ciara's look in a short style for Homecoming? Jovani style 171924 is so perfect! This dress has a sheer illusion lace bodice with a feather skirt.

  • Prom Trend of the Week: Printed Dresses

This week's prom trend is one of our favorites because we love seeing different patterns and innovative looks every year. Printed dresses are so creative and are always fresh since there's so many different ways to wear the trend! A print dress will always be a showstopper; whether it's animal print or polka dots, you'll be sure to have the most memorable dress of the night!

Printed dresses can either work with your figure or go against it, depending on the pattern and your body shape and height. So, just make sure to pick a pattern that suits your body type. If you find the right printed dress, it can be super figure flattering. Below are some of our favorite new patterned dresses for Prom 2013 - they are all great looks that certainly take the boredom out of a solid color dress!

    La Femme18969

    Sherri Hill 2813

    Tony Bowls 2351337

    La Femme 18017

    1. La Femme 18969 Rose Gold Gown - A unique sequined gown with a sweetheart neckline and contrasting pattern on the skirt. The chevron pattern is très chic. One of our favorites! If you're on the taller side, this is a great dress option - the chevron pattern will really work to give you a slimming figure.

    2. Sherri Hill 2813 Nude Evening Gown - Be the center of attention in this fitted floor length strapless jeweled gown. The unique beaded pattern on this dress takes the patterned dress trend to a new level by almost giving it a 3D look! The way the patterns are laid out on this dress should work to accent your curves.

    3. Tony Bowls Tony B 2351337 - A strapless printed chiffon A-line prom dress with a sweetheart neckline and gathered empire waist accented with chunky hand-beading. This is simply a fun dress, and a great way to wear print in a more simple way. The subtle ombre make this dress so on-trend, while the print gives off an artsy look.

    4. La Femme 18017 - Go wild in this blue one shoulder animal print ombre gown with a sexy front slit. The pleated bodice has cutouts leading to the back cutout and trimmed with sequins and beading. If you love animal print, this is such a fun way to rock the look. The ombre keeps the animal print from being too overpowering, since it fades into white at the bottom.

  • New Year's Eve Party Themes

With New Year's Eve only 4 days away, it's definitely time to get your party plans together! Whether you're holding your own party, or attending someone else's, it can be fun to have a theme. Party City recently put together a list of NYE party themes that we thought were cute ideas to spice up the normal New Year's party. Whether you're looking for a theme for your own party, or if you know that one of your friends will be having one at theirs, we paired some sexy cocktail dresses with our favorite Party City NYE party ideas.

Want to stick with the classic New Year's Eve look? You definitely can't go wrong by keeping with tradition and going with a black, silver, and gold party theme. As far as dressing for the occasion, a classic little black dress is always perfect, but it can be fun to dress it up a bit with silver or gold accenting either on the dress or with your accessories. We love Primavera style 9625 for a traditional NYE look - it's a cute strapless dress with silver and black sequins.

Looking for something a little more funky for New Year's Eve? There's definitely no better night to let your wild side out! Don't be afraid to shake things up with fun spots and stripes in your party's theme and on your outfit. Animal print dresses are always a sexy staple for any girl's closet, so it's a dress you won't have trouble finding multiple uses for. We love Xcite style 30375 and Jovani style 9866 cocktail dresses to get the animal print look for NYE.

Just want to add some bright colors to your New Year's Eve? Go with a "Midnight Mystery" theme and fill your night with bold blues, purples, oranges and reds. There's plenty of multicolor dresses you can pick from, but we love Hannah S. style 27781 for a fun and flirty look.

  • ** Trend Alert ** Prints Part I: Spotted!

Open a fashion magazine lately? If you're reading this blog, I'd assume you have and if you took the time to flip through it, I'd assume you came across a page dedicated to Animal Prints.  Animal prints have gained momentum in our wardrobes. First we started with one piece, maybe a cardigan or a tank top. Next came Animal Prints in our jewelry and handbags, followed by shoes and now larger pieces like jackets and dresses. It is only right that we mention that this includes prom dresses.

Many people assume that most Animal Prints are leopard.  This is an easy error and leopard, without a doubt, has been the most popular, but leopard, jaguar and cheetah are all similar to each other as you can see below.  The three are so similar and common that many of us assume one as the other. The chart below can help you to distinguish the difference in prints. Other popular prints this season include tiger, zebra and giraffe.

Prom dress designers are jumping at the chance to use Animal Prints in their designs for Spring 2011. From the subtle hint of the print to the obvious and daring full print, Animal Prints are in this Prom. Check out a few of my favorite, "standard" Animal Print dresses... Continue reading
