  • New Year, New You for 2012!

2012 is a new year, this means new fashion. With fashion, there always come trends and with a new year comes a NEW you.

For Prom 2012, pick the New Year’s resolution of a “new you.” Try something fresh, unique and out of the usual for yourself. When you begin your prom dress search in the beginning of the new year, keep in mind some of the dress details we see trending:

Bling: We love bling. There is no such thing as too much bling, so make sure if it isn’t on your dress you Accessorize! Accessorize! Accessorize! Try some of these bracelets or earrings with or without a blinged out dress.

Mirrors: “Mirrors” is a new kind of bling trending for Prom 2012. Mirrors are big and small pieces of glass stone placed closely together to make a broken mirror effect. Take a look at Night Moves 6496. This dress is gorgeous!

Lace: Some of you may think lace is out and not your thing, but you are wrong it is so in and not going anywhere. All of this year’s designers have used lace on some part of their dress collections. It gives your look a classy, slightly sexy touch.

Feathers: Fun and flirty! Feathers are such a unique touch to any dress type. If you are trying to stand out, we say go with a feather accented dress.

Happy New Year! 2012 will be a great year. Life’s A Party! Dress Up!

  • Kardashian Sister and Sherri Hill Hit It BIG!

Many blog years ago, we posted about the up and coming model and Kardashian sister Kendall Jenner. Kendall was just on the scene in the fashion world then, but her break out moment came from a trip to New York with her sister Kim. C’mon! Remember the “Keeping Up With The Kardashian” episode where Kim took Kendall to New York for her shoot with Designer Sherri Hill? Well, if you forgot, Kendall spent the whole day shooting at Sherri Hill’s showroom in a penthouse suite on New York City’s Fifth Avenue!

Sherri Hill creates couture one-of-a-kind gorgeous gowns… the kind that will make heads turn on entrance! Beautiful cuts with intricate details and embellishments, Sherri Hill’s dresses, both short and long, are Prom perfect picks and give an aura of sophistication! Sherri Hill offered Kendall the opportunity to walk in one of her shows ON THE SPOT, but Kendall was too nervous and declined (much to big sis Kim’s disapproval, but Kendall didn’t want to miss cheerleading practice, GO TEAM!)

In true Kardashian fashion, Kendall conquered her fear and took Sherri Hill’s offer! Kendall hit the runway at New York’s Fashion Week on September 14, 2011. She looked fun, fresh and fabulous as she strut her stuff on the catwalk in some of Sherri Hill’s newest styles for 2012!

  • Be Responsible and Keep Prom Night Safe

Underage drinking is growing at epidemic proportions in the United States. High school administrations and parents across the country are dealing head on with this issue every day, some choosing to turn a blind eye to the problem and others choosing to educate their teens on the dangers of drinking. Parents should realize that the problem of underage drinking can be diminished by educating their children about responsible alcohol drinking.

High schools across America have a “zero tolerance” policy for drinking at school functions and as Prom season comes into full swing, many schools will plan programs reminding students that alcohol and Prom do not mix.  Many schools have “SADD” programs, “a peer-to-peer education, prevention, and activism organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, other drug use, risky and impaired driving, teen violence, and teen suicide” (Student’s Against Destructive Decisions, www.sadd.com).

Many high schools have a “mock crash” to show students the dangers of drinking and driving on Prom night. Others even go as far as having students sign a “sober contract”, an agreement to remain alcohol and drug free during Prom. To combat the pre-Prom parties, many schools have implemented the use of a breathalyzer at the door, turning away those who have been drinking (A breathalyzer is used to test someone's alcohol level in their blood.) These are all preventative measures to discourage prom go-ers from using alcohol before and during prom.  And even if you were to “get away” with it, alcohol consumption can turn what should be one of your high school year’s most memorable events into one of your most horrific ones…if you can remember it at all.

And what about after Prom? The legal drinking age in the United States is 21 years old. Some young people find this statement a bit confusing and difficult to understand, but let’s break it down into simpler terms. THE LEGAL DRINKING AGE IN THE UNITED STATES IS 21 YEARS OLD! That means that if you are under 21 years old and you are consuming an alcoholic beverage, you are committing a CRIME! Yes, to all of you underage young adults rolling your eyes, thinking its “no big deal”, it is! Whether it’s at a party in your parent’s home or at a friend’s house, drinking underage is against the law.

The only preventative measure in underage drinking is to be responsible and choose not to drink. Prom is a time to celebrate. For most seniors, it is the last hoorah before Graduation. It should be an enjoyable and memorable event to conclude your high school experience. It is an exciting time not only for you, but for your family and school community but it can turn dangerous when alcohol is involved. In the end, underage drinking is a choice. For Prom 2012, make the right choice for yourself. Be responsible, be fun and be alcohol free.

  • Muy Caliente! All Hail the Columbianas!

The 12th Annual Latin Grammy Awards was held on November 10, 2011at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada! Vegas aside, the title of this post should have been "HOT, HOT, HOT" because it was by far the sexiest and biggest night for the Latin Music Industry. And we've got the pictures to prove it! Modern Family's Sofia Vergara, Pop Icon Shakira, and Avatar's Zoe Saldana all shimmered and shined in metallic gowns. Check out these famous ladies, who all hale from Columbia, as they donned their Red Carpet looks on the Green Carpet!

Notice anything similar amongst their choices? Glitter, sequins, stones and beading make for Evening Gown Glamour! Unique and intricate embellishments and skin tone flattering colors, all chose a more fitted, figure enhancing cut! Rather than shy away from their curves, they embraced them! So in true Gloria fashion (if you  haven't seen Modern Family, you're not living), I turned to my inner Latina. • Alice Cullen Stuns!

Ashley Green looked gorgeous at the Twilight franchise's premiere of Breaking Dawn Part I on Monday, November 14, 2011. Breaking Dawn Part I is the 4th installment of the mega blockbuster movie, which first gained acclaim the old fashion way, by book! Green plays Alice Cullen, Edwards sister and Bella's best friend who has the ability to see the future (but according to Edward, her visions are subject to change). Need more info on the new movie, due out in theatres November 18? Visit The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I. (I can't give you all the details, it took me a whole summer to read all 4 books!)

Ashley Green wore an elegant custom Donna Karan gown with her hair in effortless loose waves, only a cocktail ring and matching red lips. Absolutely stunning, fresh and flawless!

For much of the fall, we have been posting short cocktail dresses, which work perfect for Holiday parties and New Years Eve, but soon will be the return of the Evening gown. We've channeled our inner Alice Cullen, and can see your future in Jovani Style 17438! The dress is a strapless fitted sequin gown with netting over a nude base and a gorgeous sweetheart neckline. The bodice is embellished throughout the bust with intricate beading and sequins running through the length of the dress in a leaf like pattern to the mermaid skirt. This dress is a show stopper and would make you the "it" girl at your next formal event, not to mention a shoe in for Prom Queen!
