  • What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

Weddings are exciting! Whether it's a family member getting hitched or a close friend tying the knot, it's always a special moment. It's also an awesome excuse to get all dolled up! Who doesn't want to get fancy, especially during the spring and summer seasons? It's definitely the perfect time to play with colors and patterns. Read on to get some tips for dressing up for a summer wedding, as well as see some of our favorite looks!

    Cocktail Dresses

Love is in the air...the weather is warm..and the flowers are in full bloom. One trend that's hot this summer is lighter or pastel colors. As much as you may want to rock it because it's summer time, steer clear from ivory or white; Rule #1 of attending a wedding is don't wear the same color as the bride! You can only get away with wearing white if it has some kind pattern or floral print. Short dresses are always fun choices; just make sure that it's not too short because you don't want to be too revealing and upstage the bride.

The gorgeous dresses below are a perfect example of short numbers that you can wear to a semi-formal summer wedding. The aqua dress below by Mori Lee (style 9242) has a beautiful lace texture that gives it a formal look and length that's just right for the occasion. The same holds true with the length on the second dress by Blush (style 9668). We are obsessed with the unique design on the skirt and the color is so chic on this dress!

    Long and High-Low Looks

Summer loving had me a blast! Another important detail to focus on when attending summer weddings is the fabric, especially if it's taking place outdoors. Look for light and airy fabrics like cotton or chiffon. If the wedding is taking place on the beach, make sure you wear shoes that won't be an issue to walk in the sand, like wedges.

These La Femme dresses below are perfect looks for a semi-formal summer wedding if you want to go with a longer look. The chiffon fabric and the light colors couldn't be more perfect, and hi-lo dresses are so on trend this year. The unique print on the first hi-lo dress is the right kind of print - subtle yet fun. Like we mentioned above, don't be afraid of print, as long as it's not a crazy bright pattern that might take the attention away from the bride or the wedding.

    Black Tie Summer Wedding

Dressing for a black-tie wedding in the summertime is all about looking elegant. Heels are a must! Floor length is the best option for this type of wedding. Since it's warmer out, and you're most likely going to wear something sleeveless or strapless, you might want to consider bringing a wrap if it's a religious wedding. Try to stick with solid colors, because print might come off as little too casual.

The three evening gowns below are great examples for this fancy occasion. The colors are certainly stunning! The yellow strapless Allure (style 6608) gown features a slimming ruched bodice. The one shoulder coral gown also by Allure (style A520) is the essence of elegance! The chiffon fabric is breathable and the beading is the perfect amount of sparkle. The kiwi green La Femme (style 18563) gown features a beaded plunging sweetheart neckline which is just sexy enough and not too revealing.

  • Rissy Roo's Prom 2013 Favorites!

After writing about the most popular dresses from the 2013 Prom season among our customers last week, we decided to ask a few of the Rissy Roo's employees what their favorite dresses of the season were! There was so many gorgeous dresses this season that it was a tough choice to make, but our Roo Staff voted it down to three favorites. Take a look below!

Renee, one of our customer service representatives, chose Sherri Hill 21016 in Red. Renee is a huge fan of lace and loved the way it was used in this beautiful hi-lo strapless Sherri Hill dress. Hi-lo, lace, and nude were popular trends this year, so combining all three into one look definitely makes for a winning dress! Continue reading

  • Prom Trend of the Week: Pretty in Pastel

Even though Neon has been super popular lately, the color's opposite family member, pastels, have been all the rage, too! If you haven't joined the trend by way of mint green yet, don't worry, there's plenty of other pretty pastel colors you can wear, too!

With how long the bold neon colors have been in style for, the new trend of soft pastels is definitely a refreshing switch. The delicate palette is without a doubt a perfect way to usher Spring in, and will have you thinking of delicious cotton candy and summer fun that's soon to come! So, we especially love the color to wear at Prom - rather than having all eyes on your brightly colored dress, keep all eyes on you with a more feminine, subtle look. Below are some of our favorite dresses to wear candy-colored pastel hues for prom.

    Sherri Hill 3875

Sherri Hill style style 3875 is all about pastel! This stunning chiffon high low dress with beautiful jeweled detail and strapless sweetheart bust comes in five soft colors that are all so perfect for Spring: peach, aqua, green, pink, and yellow. Continue reading

  • Prom Trend of the Week: Hi Lo Dresses

The last prom trend we discussed was the increasingly popular short dresses trend. This week, it's all about the hi lo (or, high low) trend. For those of you who are a little iffy about the short dress look, hi lo is a little bit of both! The hi lo trend is super chic, and some may say a more elegant way to show off your legs!

Since hi lo is such a popular trend, there's many dresses out there to get the look: from sparkly, to print, to neon. Our favorites for this year are below:

    La Femme 19139Flirt P4727

    1. La Femme 19139 Purple Multi Print Dress - a fun strapless print dress with a hi lo hem and cascading chiffon layers. This style has a pleated sweetheart neckline.

    2. Flirt by Maggie Sottero P4727 Soft Mango Hi-Lo -This dress combines all of our favorite things into one! Chiffon, lace and crystal mingle are all in this dainty hi lo.

Another type of hi lo dress that everybody is crazy about has two looks in one: the classic short dress + the hi lo style. How is this possible, you ask? Detachable skirts! Getting a dress that can be used in different ways is so genius! It's like buying two for the price of one. You can wear the detachable skirt for prom and then when you're heading over to the after prom party...just take it off! Or, you can even get more use out of the dress and wear it without the detachable skirt for another event. You decide!

    La Femme 18872

    Sherir Hill 21165

    1. La Femme 18872 Aqua Hi-Lo Dress - A gorgeous sequined strapless cocktail dress with rhinestone trim and an elegant detachable chiffon skirt. A perfect dress that transforms for multiple uses.

    2. Sherri Hill 21165 - A classy and elegant strapless lace dress with a detachable tulle skirt in coral. Great for going from your prom to an after party!

  • Accessorizing Your Formal Dress for Halloween

Halloween is a great excuse for you to go over the top. But why buy a costume when you can use an outfit from your closet...or get those clothes you've been wanting? Just by adding a few accessories to your favorite dress, you can instantly be part of the Halloween spirit and have the dress to wear again any time of the year (without the Halloween accessories of course)! Read on to see how we added some accessories to some classic formal dresses to make them ready for Halloween!

    Little Black Dress

You can get great use out of any black dress. This Clarisse black one shoulder hi-lo dress is one of our personal favorites (style 2174). Just add kitty ears, a witch hat, or vampire teeth, and you're all ready for Halloween! The real bonus, though, is that a Little Black Dress can be used for so many different occasions that you'll never run out of places and reasons to wear it.

    Fringe Dress

The fringe dress has been a very popular style lately. The look is taken from the 1920s flapper style, so with this in mind, this type of dress is great to turn into a flapper girl outfit!  This black Mac Duggal fringe cocktail dress (style 3479T) and Touch Ups Peacock high heals are perfect to be a flapper girl.

    White Dress

White formal dresses are always stand-out pieces at any event. For Halloween, just add wings and you can be a beautiful angel! One of our favorite white dresses is the Mac Duggal style 6383N, which has a beautiful  fully sequined top and layered ruffles of chiffon on the skirt. The Sizzle by Coloriffics Inez high heals are a great way to add some extra glitter to the outfit!

    Red Dress

Red dresses are always a sexy choice. And for Halloween, where there's a white dress for an angel, there must also be a red dress for the devil. Turn this La Femme 18110 cocktail dress into a devil by adding horns and a tail.
