Are you a big basketball fan? If so, this is definitely something you’ll be amazed by (and maybe a little jealous of)! Professional basketball player Dwayne Wade, who plays for the Miami Heat, really showed how much he loves his fans by surprising one of them at their prom!

It all started when a high school senior that lives in Florida, Nicole Muxo, created a YouTube video of a prom proposal to Dwyane. Nicole started off the video saying that she’s all ready for prom, except for one thing – having the perfect date, and proceeded to ask Dwayne to be that date. Watch her promposal here:

Believe it or not, her promosal didn’t fall on deaf ears! Dwayne never officially responded to the video, but after being able to find some free time between his playoff games, the NBA star showed up at Nicole’s prom to surprise her! Dwayne first surprised Nicole with a phone call, saying sorry that he couldn’t make it to her prom and sending her happy wishes. But, a few minutes later, Dwayne walked into the La Jolla Ballroom in Coral Gables, where the Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School prom was being held, to surprise Nicole in person! Nicole was overwhelmed with amazement, and the two danced and took pictures together before Dwayne headed out for the night. Watch the video of Dwayne surprising the teen:

We were so amazed that the NBA star, also known as D-Wade and Flash, took time out of his schedule to make a dream come true for a fan! He said in the video,

“I had people I looked up to and people that I liked. The moment that an opportunity like this would have happened to me, it would have made my senior year, it would have made my life.”

One of our favorite of this wonderful story is that Nicole was wearing a dress we sell at Rissy Roo’s: Scala style 47546 in blush! It’s a sexy fitted strapless gown with a strapless sweetheart neckline and floor-length hemline; hand-sewn sequins envelope the bodice and skirt. Check out how beautiful she looked:

We can only imagine how happy Dwayne must have made Nicole by showing up to her prom! It must have been the perfect end to her senior year! Nicole said at the end of the video, “Thank you for coming, it  made my dreams come true!”

And, we loved Dwayne’s message at the end of the video:

“I’m just glad that we can make dreams come true. So, once again, Wade’s World, D-Wade, doing what we do.”

The 2013 Prom Season is finally coming to an end, and our Roo Girls have picked out some very pretty dresses this year! There have been many popular dress for Prom 2013, but there’s three that stood out above and beyond as our Roo customer’s favorite dresses. Read on to find out what the most popular dresses have been of the season, as picked out by our customers and worn to their proms!

The Precious Formals P8819 in Mint was very in demand this season! The beautiful color and sequin pattern had everyone wanting it! Mint was a big color choice in general this prom season, but Precious Formals P8819 proved to be the go-to mint dress to show off the on-trend style.

Mac Duggal 50007A in Neon Coral was another dress that caught every prom girl’s eye. The bold color and rhinestone detailing ensured that you would stand out at any event that you attended. Neon was another popular fashion choice for prom this year, and this was the dress of choice for our neon lovers!

Lastly, the Mori Lee 9199 tulle dress proved that it was the perfect short prom dress for our customers this spring. With its corset-like top and funky colored tutu it is sure to make a statement at your occasion. Who doesn’t love a little ombre??

Dresses with sheer bodices and lace detailing have been really popular for Prom 2013, and it was certainly a style to watch at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, too! The BBMAs were held on Sunday May 19th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and our favorite looks on the blue carpet (yes, blue…not red!) were worn by Ariana Grande and Jennifer Morrison. They both looked so stunning in black sheer and lace pieces that we decided to dedicate our Billboard Music Awards post to them! Check out what they wore below and how you can get their looks for your next formal event.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande, who plays Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon TV show Victorious, wore a dress from one of our favorite designers, Jovani! A fun and flirty strapless little black dress, Jovani style 72719 has beautiful sheer, lace and floral detailing.

Best yet, there are two ways that this dress can be worn. There’s the flowy short skirt version that Ariana wore, and there’s also a fitted version. The fitted version is Jovani style 900. Both are perfect graduation dresses!

Jennifer Morrison

Another black sheer and lace look that we loved was worn by Jennifer Morrison, who plays Dr. Allison Cameron in House and Emma Swan in Once Upon a Time. Not only was the bodice sheer, but her over skirt was, too! It was definitely a very sexy look!

When it comes to lace and sheer, Jovani is definitely the go-to designer. And, to get Jennifer’s look, this is definitely no exception! There are two dresses that Jovani makes that we absolutely love for a sheer bodice + sheer skirt look: styles 3592 and 5454. They are both beautiful looks if you want to show off some leg, but don’t want to wear a short dress.

Much like Jennifer’s gown, Jovani style 3592 is a strapless floor length gown that features lace detailing on the sheer bodice and a jersey skirt with sheer overlay.

Jovani style 5454 is a little different than Jennifer’s look, since it has two straps, but we love it just the same! It’s an elegant evening gown that features a sheer length skirt and a sheer bodice with beading.

With the warmer weather here, it’s certainly the best time to show off some skin with a sheer lace look! The lace and black makes it an elegant choice, while the sheer adds some fun and sexiness.

Back in January and February, we held a Pin to Win contest to give away a prom dress! Contestants were encouraged to channel their inner prom queen to make their ultimate prom wish list. The board with the most followers and that best depicted their excitement for prom through images on RissyRoos.com would win a free prom dress! Stephanie DiIullo was picked to be our Pin to Win contest winner because she blew us away with her prom board!

Stephanie recently sent us pictures in her winning dress, and she just looks so beautiful that we wanted to share them with you! The dress she picked as her prize was Faviana style 7113 in the color Watermelon. It’s a mesh prom dress with intricate sequin detail and godet bottom.

She sent us such a sweet note with the photos:

While the end of the year means studying for finals and putting the last touches on getting ready for prom, it also means that it’s time for Graduation! Whether you’re graduating from high school or college, it means that it’s the celebration of the end of one stage of your life, and the soon to be new beginning of your next stage. So, while it may feel stressful right now, there will be plenty of parties to attend and plenty of fun to be had.

What to wear on graduation day may not be first on your mind right now, but it’s definitely an important thing to think about. Just like prom, it’s a day that you’ll never forget, and a day that many pictures will be taken! So, even though you’ll be wearing a graduation gown for the ceremony, you’ll definitely want to make sure you have a cute dress underneath. This way, when it’s time to take off the cap and gown, you’ll be ready for all the pictures (and the parties, of course)!

When it comes to picking a dress, we recommend choosing something that’s flirty and summery. A lot of graduations are held outside, so you want to make sure you’re comfortable and don’t get too hot. We have an exception below, but we also love dresses that are either strapless or one shoulder, because they usually won’t peek through the top of your gown. Below are our favorite dresses for graduation day, to give you some ideas.

Dave & Johnny style 8914 is one of our favorite dresses for graduation. The ivory  lace look is so perfect for the spring and summer months, and the beaded waist adds just the right amount of glam. Best yet, since it’s a strapless dress, it won’t even show when you’re wearing your graduation gown!

White is so on-trend this year, so Black by Blush style C111 is another white colored dress that we love for graduation.  This sexy one-shoulder is draped in silver stones that define your figure. Since it’s a one-shoulder with a low cut, this is another dress that shouldn’t show under your gown.

Sherri Hill style 21167 is just so chic, that it makes for a perfect graduation cocktail dress! The lace is just stunning and will surely make you the center of attention in pictures! We also love the open back – it makes it so perfect for warmer weather! Since it has a boat neck top, the dress may peek through your gown a little. But, with such elegant lace detail and stunning colors, it will only help to add a must-needed style uplift to your grad gown!

With prom season in full effect, the prom committees are getting decor ready for their creative themes. Each year, High Schools are coming up with unique ideas for their prom. From New York to Paris…from Candy Land to Alice and Wonderland…prom themes are now out of this world! With the help of Seventeen Magazine, we listed below this year’s most popular themes. They’re sure to get everyone in fiesta mode!

Casino

The casino theme is ideal for students who want something different from just dancing. Adding table games and slot machines gives everyone something to do! To complete the theme, you can recreate Vegas by adding lots of flashing lights. Channel your inner Vegas show girl by wearing lots of sparkle, like the sequin dress below. Masquerade Ball

Want something a little more classy? Seventeen Magazine recommends channeling 18th century France with castle decorations and a big fancy ball. Students can get creative with their masks, and a contest for who has the best one can make it even more fun. As for what to wear, look for something that will make a grand entrance. Below is a perfect look for a fancy masquerade ball.

Arabian Nights

If you’re looking for something totally exotic and different, an Arabian Nights theme is the one for your school! Beautiful decorations with vibrant colors and draping will bring the middle east to your prom. We loved Seventeen’s idea to set up a station for henna tattoos so students can take a break from the dance floor. To make it even more authentic, instead of chairs, set up cushions for the seating at the tables.

When it comes to your outfit, incorporating the vibrant colors into your accessories or gown will have you matching with the theme perfectly. A bright statement necklace would be perfect to give you that Arabian exotic style!

The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, and Joel Edgerton, finally hit theatres, and it’s gotten us obsessing over everything 1920s! Baz Luhrmann’s reinterpretation was released on May 10, 2013, and everyone is talking nonstop about everything from the music to the glitz and glamour of the period. But, there’s of course one thing that has us girls at Rissy Roo’s stuck in Gatsby fever: the clothes!

To celebrate, we picked out our favorite roaring ’20s inspired looks from our store. These dresses are perfect for nabbing Daisy Buchanan’s style in a fresh, modern way. Check them out below:

For the classic flapper look with a modern twist, we’re all about Jovani style 74201. It’s a unique cocktail dress with beaded detail and a fringe skirt. Beading and tassels are synonymous with this period, and this dress incorporates both in a perfectly modern way. The on-trend nude colored bodice will definitely have on-lookers amazed by the styling of this dress!

For some glitzy art deco inspiration, we love Primavera style 9490. The uniquely crafted sequins in a cross diamond pattern with a super sexy criss cross low back and high slit with slight train will have you feeling like a ’20s princess all night long!

Drop waists were big during this period, and Shail K. style SK3503 brings that style to modern day so well. The fitted hourglass shape and sweetheart neckline compliment your curves and gives the drop waist effect that the fringe at the bottom creates and updated look.

The Gatsby period was a time of extravagance, so however you decide to bring some 1920s style into your wardrobe, do so with confidence! Just make sure that if you go for a Gatsby inspired dress, don’t over-do it in the accessories department. Otherwise, you may start looking a little too period perfect!

If you’ve gotten hooked onto Lifetime’s new reality TV show Preachers’ Daughers, then this is definitely something that you don’t want to miss!

One of the daughters on the show, Kolby Koloff, posted photo after photo of her all dressed up for prom on Instagram. And, we were so excited to see that she wore a dress that we have at Rissy Roo’s: Dave & Johnny style 8040! Check out the pictures below of her with her family and boyfriend.
